Backgrounds in E-mails

If you want to use backgrounds for your e-mails, please be sure to be in the "rich text" or "html" format. (If you have received colored e-mails before than you are already that mode.) All common e-mail programs (like Outlook Express, Netscape and AOL) allow you to use backgrounds. It's just that AOL users can only see backgrounds of e-mails sent by another AOL user. So if you send a mail from Outlook Express (or Netscape, etc.) to an AOL member, they cannot see your background. (I don't know if the new AOL 7.0 is different...)

Outlook Express

Open the window for a new e-mail and click on "format" in the menu, then on "background", "image"and "browse". Then you browse to the folder where you have stored your background images and double-click on the file of your choice. After that you just click on "OK". If you use a bordered background you should increase the indent, it looks better and is also easier to read: "format", "increase indent". You can repeat this step until your cursor has reached the right position. If you want to increase the indent after having written your text, you first have to highlight it!

Netscape

Open the window for a new e-mail and click on "format" in the menu, then on "page colors and properties". In the upcoming window you select "use image" and click on "select file". Then you browse to the folder where your background images are stored and double-click on the file of your choice. Afterwards you just click "OK". If you use a bordered background you should increase the indent, it looks better and is easier to read: "format", "increase indent". You can repeat this step until your cursor has reached the right position. If you want to increase the indent after having written your text, you first have to highlight it!

(The terms could be a little bit different as my programs are in German, sometimes the English names are different from the direct translation! If you use an English version and the terms aren't like the above mentioned, I would be happy if you emailed me the right ones!)
